2017 Browser Comparison

Browsers improve with each build maintaining compatibility with web standards and performance capability. Digital Trends, an online publication, used a few benchmarks this year to compare several major browsers and posted their results in September 2017. The benchmarks were run on the same computer using the latest browsers available at the time of the test for Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Microsoft Edge.

Summarizing the test results:

  • HTML5 compliance winners are Opera (first place), Chrome and Vivaldi (second place), and Microsoft edge.
  • Jetstream benchmark (JavaScript for advanced web applications) winner is Microsoft Edge, Chrome took second place and Firefox was last.
  • Google Octane 2.0 javascript benchmark winner is Microsoft Edge followed closely by Opera.
  • Mozilla's Kraken javascript benchmark winner is Chrome with Edge following close behind.
